
The CALL Uehiro Dissertation Fellowship (PhD Students)
The CALL Uehiro Dissertation Fellowship was the original form of graduate student support established by the CALL Uehiro Program. It is open to PhD students in the College of Arts, Languages, & Letters. The purpose of the fellowship program is to assist PhD candidates at the middle-stage of their dissertation work – after defending the proposal and drafting a chapter or two – with more opportunities to enhance their research and training.
Travel Support (PhD Students)
PhD students whose research theme or agenda aligns closely with, or makes noteworthy contributions to, the goals of the CALL Uehiro Program may qualify for travel support. Travel awards provide partial support of up to $1000 for domestic travel and up to $1500 for international travel. The funds may be used for conference participation, archival research, interviews, and/or fieldwork conducted in support of the applicant’s doctoral research. A clearly articulated travel objective, along with a detailed itinerary and budget breakdown, is required at the time of application. Applicants are encouraged to seek additional funding sources as appropriate.

MA students who demonstrate strong academic performance and a clear research trajectory may qualify for travel support. Travel awards provide partial support of up to $1000 for domestic travel and up to $1500 for international travel. The funds may be used for conference participation, interviews, fieldwork conducted for research purposes, or archival research. A clearly stated travel objective, along with a detailed itinerary and budget breakdown, is required at the time of application. Applicants are encouraged to seek additional funding sources as appropriate.
* The CALL Uehiro Program does not offer support to undergraduate students at this time.
